Who are we?
Matt Dietz
Matt Dietz is a lifelong car addict who has in 35 years owned several hundred cars, mostly he says, not very good ones. A former building contractor and latterly running a family property company, Matt was invited to “ pit crew” a classic Aston Martin DP214 prototype car in the classic Le Mans race prior to the 24 hours race in 2013. The experience was so exhilarating that it lit the desire to get involved in motor sport.
In 2014, having become a close friend of Simon’s through business activities, they founded Feathers Motor Sport as a distraction from their busy day jobs, only to find that the team, having now won two championships and raced cars at Goodwood and the Algarve Classic Festival gaining 15 minutes of fame, that this is becoming a full time job with a great following of likeminded supporters.
Matt raced in the Intermarque with James in 2014 and with Ninex’ Andy Duncan in 2015.
Matt and Simon have enjoyed years of friendship and mutual interests, and, following several bottles of good red wine, agreed that a joint venture into a niche market could provide great experiences for corporations and likeminded groups of individuals and thus Feathers LifeStyle was born.
Simon Rose
Simon Rose, was in the 1990s a Director of Porsche Club and as one of the organisers, shared responsibility for the Club’s motor racing calendar. He is the AMOC representative for the Algarve, where he lived and partnered an art gallery for many years before returning to the UK to run a family property investment company and in 2013 founded Feathers Motor Sport.
He has for many years competed in various shooting disciplines both in the UK and internationally. Now back in the UK he enjoys clay pigeon shooting. Simon collects antique clocks which both interests him and frustrates him as they rarely keep time, rather like, so he says, some of the racing drivers in FMS.
Simon achieved one of his ambitions running FMS classic 1964 Ginetta G10 at the Goodwood 74th Members meeting in 2016 and hopes one day to participate in the Mille Miglia before this event ceases to exist.
Feathers Motorsport
Feathers Motor Sport, supported and sponsored by Feathers LifeStyle
Feathers Motor Sport ( FMS ) came to being after a discussion in the Feathers pub in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire in 2013.
Simon and Matt discussed the possibilities of buying a car and “ going racing “
After a lot of searching, they procured a car from Ninex Motor Sport and Simon procured a racing driver called James Guess and whilst the first year was supposed to be all about track days and racing, went straight into the deep end, entering and enjoying the AMOC Intermarque Championship.
Four years on, FMS has raced each year in the championship in the amazing Porsche 968s winning for the last two years and running 3 Porsches in 2016 and additionally procuring the very rare 1964 Ginetta G10 which raced at Goodwood 74th Members Meeting and the Algarve Classic Festival in 2016.
The interest in FMS activities has grown to such an extent that in 2016 the Team, running a total of 4 cars during the season has grown and at a big race have as many as 8 drivers, 3 engineers, 3 support members running pit boards and timing, and a catering manager and typically 25 supporters in the FMS garages.
Sponsors have been enthusiastic to get involved and have enjoyed benefits for their loyalty to our successes and been supportive, as it is inevitable in motor racing, to our disappointments.
